Clevertronics - EMC Laboratory
EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) laboratory. One of just six highly controlled testing environments in Australia used to assess the interaction of electronic and electrical equipment with electromagnetic energy.
Designed as a specialised testing environment within the existing warehouse at Clevertronics' Melbourne headquarters, the EMC Laboratory is conceived as a self-contained architectural shell inserted into the larger industrial volume.
The facility accommodates a shielded test room, adjoining circulation and support spaces, together with a separate non-shielded testing room.
The design establishes a clear distinction between the controlled testing environments and the surrounding warehouse, while maintaining a straightforward and efficient relationship between testing, access and equipment movement and clear uninterrupted sightlines from the main laboratory corridor.
Rather than treating the laboratory as an isolated object, the project works within the existing warehouse framework, creating a precise and functional intervention inside a larger industrial setting and allowing visitors to observe while touring the broader facility. The result is a robust, purpose-built testing facility that balances the highly controlled requirements of EMC testing with the practical demands of an active warehouse environment.
